Keep on creating

2020 will be the year to be remembered or totally forgotten. At present I have mixed feelings. I have been creative over the past months since March when the lockdowns started. I’ve finished 46 watercolors, some of which are on this website or my Etsy shop, https://www.etsy.com/shop/StudioKaneArt . I also created several note card packs using several of my smaller paintings or I just painted newer cards.

Holiday Note Cards on my Etsy shop

Since my last post I had an accident. I fell and landed on my head shoulder & right hand. All of the scans & x-rays show no break in any of the bones. Yet my right hand has some ligament damage and is still swollen. As I move forward with the pain, I am still being creative. I started using my left hand to rough out some of the sketches and ideas that I have going on along with trying to use a new technique. Some of the newer paintings will be posted in a month or two. So what did I do to continue the creative flow. I went through my photo library and pulled my personal photos for reference in the future. I also watched other artist’s videos (I still need to set up the camera and learn to edit video files) for inspiration and I am using my injured hand as little as possible.

“Winter Trail”

I started several paintings using black & white watercolor only. (Several are available on my Etsy Shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/StudioKaneArt). I apply the paint using a variety of natural sea sponges using my left hand and start to blend the paint on the paper or in a separate pallet to get the variations of grey.

I then take a brush to create the trees, but most of the work is done using sponges. This method is therapeutic and allows me to keep my creative energies flowing. At the same time I am STILL CREATING.
