Description
The Pennsylvania State House, also known as Independence Hall.
Construction on the building started in 1732. It was built to be the Pennsylvania State House. The Pennsylvania legislature loaned their Assembly Room out for the meetings of the Second Continental Congress and later, the Constitutional Convention. The building (without the tower) was completed in 1748. The tower & steeple were added around 1750. The wooden steeple had rotted by 1773 and was removed in 1781. In 1828, the city hired architect William Strickland to restore the original steeple.
The drawing “The Hall where it Happened “ is an original drawing by Ed Kane. Ed used an organic ink using a weed called ink pod mixed with vinegar.
